Castle

Table shown is an Eight foot (46” x 92”) - see size note below*

It is quarter-sawn oak and shown unrestored.

C. L. Castle was a small company in Syracuse, New York

This table has carved leaves up the corners of the cabinet and a leg with floral moldings, that is reminiscent in shape to the BBC Jewel, Chicago and Southern.

The cabinet is single-piece construction.

*Note on size: Many people do not know that there are, and always have been, two sizes of “eight foot tables”. Pool tables are measured by “playing area” - inside the cushions

The two eights are 46” x 92” and 44” by 88”

Terminology is confusing. The larger 8 was formerly known as the “regulation 8”.

46 x 92 and 50 x 100 (nine foot) were considered the two regulation sizes.

The smaller “8” was often called a “home size” or “home-style” or” undersized” 8.

Today, the larger 8 is becoming scarce. Few current manufacturers produce this size. The term “regulation” is no longer used to designate size. The larger 8 is currently called a “pro-eight” or “over-sized 8” and the smaller 8 is now called a “regular 8”.
