BBC Kling (Walnut)

 

Photos shown are some of our previous Kling restorations – two Circassian Walnut and one Mahogany –  with Ebony, celluloid, and mother-of-pearl inlay. The Kling (circa 1916) is closely related to two other BBC models - the “Arcade” and the “Hudson”. These share the “elephant foot” leg style and the same decorative vocabulary of celluloid, Ebony and mother-of-pearl inlay with raised architectural elements.

 

The Kling, Arcade, and Hudson were all built to carry easily the optional one-and-one- half inch slate (a popular option) which pushed the total weight of these tables to over three-quarters of a ton. They were part of a larger class of tables named “Jumbo Frames” for their massive construction and heavy frame members.

 

Tables of this type are often players’ favorites, though a skilled restoration is the first pre-requisite for any antique table’s playability, regardless of model.

 

At this writing we have two Circassian Walnut Klings – one is a 6-leg pocket, the other a 4-leg, inch-and-one-half slate ball return – and a 6-leg mahogany, ball return Arcade.
